CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
Chris Butler - Chairman

First of all I would like to give huge thanks to our committee for their leadership and guidance over the past year.– Justine Kennard – Deputy Chair; David Moir, Lorraine Beattie, Ian Williams & newly appointed Renee Wilson.

My thanks to Simon Duffy for the enthusiasm, energy and passion he puts in, every day, to make our City a better place to be for all. Also, Michelle van Dyk, Chandra Tandukar for their hard work and dedication to the cause. Also big thanks to Skysun Karmacharya who is no longer with us but contributed greatly over the last two years.

Needless to say this year has seen challenges before us that none of us expected. I would like to congratulate not only the team at Uniquely Nelson but all the CBD community who did their part to help everyone get through these difficult times. Perhaps one positive is that we have all been working closer together to resolve issues enabling a closer community into the future.

I would like to thank our major shareholder, Nelson City Council. Uniquely Nelson have signed a 3 year contract with Nelson City Council to assist in meeting the goals of the city and we look forward to working closely with them on the spacial plan and implementation of city development initiatives. We are excited to see Nelson City enhanced to meet the needs of our community. My thanks to NRDA, Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce and other key groups for the dialogue, ideas and collaboration that will see Nelson City thrive well into the future.

Other key highlights for this year:

We combined Nelson Advantage & Uniquely Nelson websites into one, along with a redesign. The website is now full of helpful information, stories, videos and VR and has turned into the heartbeat of our city. We are gaining great results and look forward to future development in the digital space.

Listings and Virtual reality continue to build with over 90 businesses taking advantage of Uniquely Nelson’s offerings in the past 12 months.

As we came out of the different levels of Covid 19, Uniquely Nelson marketed different city online promotions to support our retail and hospitality businesses. The first campaign was “Lets get Clicking” in stage 3, followed by “lets get Chatting” as we went into level 2. The message was simple…we are open for business and we are coming back!

We ran a Wellington campaign called “Come to the Sunny Side  which reached 200,000 plus and attracted 6,500 entries. Will be looking at doing similar in CHCH before Christmas.

We are looking forward to rolling out Christmas in the City & Shop & WIN with the Nelson Weekly and planning for future iniatives in 2021.

Finally, thanks to all those supporting Uniquely Nelson: Sponsors…Nelson City Council, Nelson Venues, Nelson Airport, Pitt & Moore  Mediaworks, , WK Strawbridge & Associates, Findex, Downing Design, Hospitality NZ, A-Temp and the many other sponsors and supporters that add value to our promotions. Not least, our thanks to all the businesses involved, who give time, thought and value our City.
