Nelson was abuzz in early May with a leading street artist in town to paint a giant mural on the back of Morrison Square (fronting Selwyn Place). ASKEW ONE (aka Elliot O’Donnell) is recognised worldwide for his unique approach to graffiti art and remains at the forefront of the international art scene through constantly exploring new and exciting styles in a world of imitators. With over 20 years of experience and the need to reach out to the world from his home in remote New Zealand, ASKEW ONE is self-taught in graphic design, illustration, photography, publishing, directing and editing music videos and moving images. Nelson was lucky enough to win the rights to a mural from ASKEW ONE, thanks to the #gigatownnsn competition. https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/gigatownnsn Nelson jumped to second place in the competition, after it won the latest Chorus mini competition where campaigners created 30-second videos to show what the highspeed internet would do for their cities. A video by Gigatown Nelson campaigner Michelle Lang won the competition, and an extra 200,000 points. Wanaka is currently in top place. The mural depicts local children Sofie Johnston and Rex Hobbs. ASKEW said he chose children for his artwork as they depicted the future of Nelson. ASKEW ONE had some spare time whilst in Nelson so he has kindly given Nelson a second mural on the fence opposite Fresh Choice.

Details of other street art in Nelson City will be published on the Uniquely Nelson website soon.
