Vanessa shares her love for Nelson
I’m a Nelson girl, born and bred. Growing up in Nelson was the best. I remember coming into late-night Friday shopping as a teenager. You knew you had made it when your parents let you go in with your friends and get the bus home alone!
Even though I have had a couple of stints living away after college, I was always drawn back to Nelson by the lifestyle, beauty, and friendly family vibe. I always wanted our children to experience the carefree lifestyle of growing up in Nelson. So, we had 5 of them! Haha.
Alongside my husband, we have been business owners in Nelson for the past 25 years. I understand the highs and lows involved with business ownership and have made it my mission to help Nelson businesses experience more of the highs and less of the lows. I really believe in what we have to offer here in Nelson, and care about the success of local businesses, so the work I do with Uniquely Nelson in producing and distributing the Nelson City Guide is my way of helping our city thrive.
We have had this partnership for many years and over that time I have seen the growth in popularity of the guide. When I travel, I know how handy it is to have an all-in-one guide of the city, put together by someone who knows it so well, which is why the Nelson City Guide has been so successful.
The guide showcases our local Nelson businesses in the food, retail, and creative industries to the masses of tourists that enjoy our city each year.
We release the guide at the end of October, which we have found is ideal timing to get ahead of our city’s busy summer months. We distribute about 40,000 copies of the guide nationwide, each year noticing that the demand for the guide is increasing. This includes to Nelson City retailers, cafés, bars and other businesses in the city, the Nelson-Tasman i-SITE and Nelson City Council. It is also available at numerous accommodation providers, tourist attractions, i-SITE’s and other public amenities throughout New Zealand. There is also the added bonus of the guide being available in a flipbook version on the Uniquely Nelson website. The breadth of reach that the Nelson City Guide has meant that the advertising’ value for money’ is excellent!
We would love to be able to showcase your business in the Nelson City Guide. I am going to be out and about to chat and see how we can make your listing in the Nelson City Guide work best for you. You can also contact me directly at vanessa@downing.nz.
Take care and see you soon.
