Uber coming to Nelson in October
Uber has announced it will be arriving in six new cities in October.
The rideshare giant will begin operations in Rotorua, Taupō, Napier-Hastings, New Plymouth, Palmerston North and Nelson in just over a month’s time – nearly doubling its current portfolio of seven cities.
Uber’s New Zealand country manager, Amanda Gilmore, said the rollout showed the company’s “long-term commitment to New Zealand”.
“We’re almost doubling our cities overnight, and bringing more casual earning opportunities for drivers – and more choice for riders.”
Gilmore said the company was confident it had the technical know-how to successfully launch in the six cities.
Uber has around 6500 partners in New Zealand, most of whom, Gilmore says, supplement their income with part-time work with the company.
“We anticipate more will follow extending further opportunities to even more New Zealanders who are looking for another way to support their families by driving on weekends and in peak tourist seasons.”
The rideshare app currently operates in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown and Dunedin.
