Rutherford Hotel Nelson is a premier Conference Hotel located at 27 Nile Street, it’s right in the heart of our city. They have two restaurants, a cafe, a cosy bar, and a great range of accommodation options available.

We spoke with Alexander, he’s the General Manager – he’s the one who, with his team makes sure things happen and ensures everything runs smoothly.

Born in Frankfurt, Germany, he’s had a very ‘International’ background and has racked up some very impressive experiences in the hospitality sector. He’s worked in Germany, Austria, Australia, the US (New York) and moved to New Zealand in 2007 where he was the Assistant Food & Beverage Manager at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron at Westhaven Marina in Auckland. It’s the home of the America’s Cup and other world-famous yacht racing events.

Alexander worked as the Food & Beverage Manager at Rutherford Hotel in 2010 for two years before venturing off to Australia, however a good memory was firmly embedded. Nelson had left its golden impression and when the opportunity came up to return, he knew what he had to do.

Alexander describes the acronym N.E.L.S.O.N. as Rutherford Hotel’s way of listing their core values:

During our meeting, someone was outside the cafe door. Alexander jumped up and offered to make them a coffee. It’s this kind of excellent service that sets Rutherford Hotel Nelson apart. When he’s not working Alexander loves riding his two favourite motorbikes – a Triumph Bonneville & KTM Adventure on the Moutere Highway.
