Hogeys Street & Surf
As I walk into the shop, I’m instantly struck with a beautifully styled layout. The vibe is light and cheerful with the relaxing smell of surfboard wax and a diverse range of new clothing – what’s not to love about this place! I’m greeted with a warm and genuine smile, these girls are a special force indeed. Owned and operated by Trudy and Casey, they are a dynamic mother and daughter combo and it’s clear they love what they do.
“It’s been 3 and a half years since we became the owners of Hogeys. We are passionate about creating a happy atmosphere and giving our customers the highest level of personalised customer service. We love chatting to people who come into the shop for a browse, some love to have a good yarn – its all part of what we’re about. We have 3 staff and they are very high on our priority list. Having good staff and looking after them is a big part of our business ethic.” says Trudy.
Trudy has worked at Hogeys under the previous owner and started her career in retail at Glassons. She has also owned a successful hair salon, where daughter Casey completed her hairdressing apprenticeship. They realised they love working together. Casey even worked at Hogeys during her high school years, so it was an exciting time for both of them to become the new owners and put their stamp on it.
They have a great range of both Surfwear and Streetwear and have all their favourite brands. Many of which are designed in New Zealand. For example, Federation, Stella+Gemma, Ketz-ke, to name a few… including top Australian brands like Rip Curl and Quicksilver. They also have a range of surfing accessories which is handy for the local surfers out there.
“We are hugely grateful for our loyal customers. Some come from as far as Blenheim and even Christchurch. Despite the current Covid challenges shop owners are experiencing around getting the usual full range of stock, they always find what they are looking for as we have loads of great options available.” says Casey.
“We’re a tight-knit family. When were not here at the shop we are at the Motorcross track supporting my Dad Pete and brother Jared. We grew up travelling the country and competing at motocross racing events, so it’s a passion that’s a big part of our family.” says Casey.
During the lockdown season, they developed an online store and now sell a great range of products there. We encourage you to check it out. Subscribe to their mailing list and get 10% off your first order.
