Lash Lounge Nelson – Specialists In Eyelash Extensions
Lash Lounge Nelson is a business that has been born out of both adventure and passion. Miriam decided to move to Nelson 3 years ago from Hawkes Bay after a South Island Camper-van holiday uncovered this gem of a region and planted the seed.
“We were ready for a change, and it’s the kind of place where I wanted my kids to grow up, and we love it here. We didn’t know anyone when we arrived, but now it feels like home,” says Miriam.
Previously she worked doing admin tasks for her Dad’s business, when she recalls one day going to a ladies home to get her nails done – and it sparked an idea.
Miriam says, “I thought to myself… I could do that… and that’s how I entered the beauty industry. With a big vision, training and determination, I set up a salon in our garage in Hawkes Bay. Once we moved to Nelson, I was excited to have a spare room to work from.”
“One thing I have learnt when you are in business, especially in the beauty industry is that it’s important to continually upskill and educate yourself as treatments and trends can evolve quickly. I have completed numerous lash and beauty related training courses with some giving me an international accreditation which is something many in our lash industry do not achieve unfortunately as the industry is mostly unregulated in New Zealand and with this being said I think it’s important for clients to see that I am well trained in what I do, and proudly display that in our reception area.”
They have been in their newly renovated location upstairs at 1/56 Bridge Street since June this year, and it looks great. Funky wallpaper, nice carpet, products to purchase, the reception area feels light and welcoming. It’s like a little sanctuary in the inner CBD where you can relax and be taken care of.
“One of the most important parts of the process is the first consultation. There’s a lot to consider, and establishing a good rapport with our clients is something we pride ourselves in. Eyelash extensions can take between 1 – 2+ hours, so it’s important to make sure the clients’ expectations are managed, and they are educated on why I think a certain style will best suit them. They learn how to be prepped and ready for their treatment, which means arrive with no makeup, and you can’t shower for 12 hours post-treatment so best to have the morning of the treatment.”
“Eyelash extensions are made from PBT Synthetic Fibre and are 100% natural-looking. It’s also interesting that eyelashes can typically last for 6 – 8 weeks, but require regular Infills to replace lost lash extensions due to the natural lash shed, which we also do. There are also Eyebrow treatments like Brow Laminations, Henna Brow Tints, brow waxing as well as Spray tans, lash lifts and teeth whitening just to name a few. We can do it all, and we’re happy to discuss any ideas or options.”
Miriam’s sister Renee also works out of the space under the name of Wink Laser Medispa, where she specialises in a range of skin treatments like Microdermabrasion, Dermaplaning, Facials, Laser hair removal and more.
The Training Academy is a place where Miriam offers quality education and has completed her Internationally Accredited Diploma in Lash Education, so she runs courses from the salon.
“If you are passionate about something, there comes a desire to share that with others who want to learn.” Get info about upcoming courses from their website and social media pages.
