Does your dog walk on farm land?: Halifax Veterinary Centre

Does your dog walk on farm land?
All dogs visiting farms, even on day trips, should have been de-wormed against tapeworm within the last 30 days and at least 48 hours before visiting to prevent sheep measles tapeworm in sheep.
To prevent sheep measles tapeworm in sheep, treat dogs monthly with a wormer containing praziquantel. Talk to us to find out more.

Remember to always scoop the poop after your dog does their business on walks! This helps to remove the worm eggs from contaminating the environment and helps stop the spread of worms to other animals and children.
Children are most at risk of getting disease from cat or dog worms, as they’re often in closest contact with family pets. They also tend to spend a lot of time outside and can pick up worm eggs from contaminated soil. The cat and dog Toxocara species of roundworm can cause serious illnesses, including blindness, in children.
To protect your pet and help stop the spread of worms to others, regularly treat your pet with a quality worm treatment such as Drontal®, Profender® or Advocate®. Talk to us to find out more.
