Jewel Beetle – handmade contemporary and unique jewellery
Whether you’re in the market for a special ring or gift for a loved one, Jewel Beetle on Bridge Street offers a range of unique jewellery, there’s something for everyone. Established in 2004, Jewel Beetle is the creative workshop of Jewellers Allison Judge and Yvon Smits.
Both Jewellers were classically trained in Europe and have quite different but complementary design styles influenced by their European background. They are also well known in Nelson for their commission work and most of their clients love to be involved in the design process.

A recent change in direction, the girls now run workshops from their studio in Bridge Street. It started with ‘Couples Create’ a wedding ring workshop and now they offer wax carving workshops for up to 6 people, a fun experience called the ‘Ring Fling.’
‘Couples Create’ is a practical workshop where couples can make their own wedding rings guided by Yvon or Allison. Starting with an initial design consultation, the jewellers discuss the options available to you, and the process involved.

Join Allison and Yvon for a fun creative night out at the ‘Ring Fling’. The workshop takes place in their studio where you will learn the fun wax carving process. The Jewellers will share tips and tricks along the way and at the end of the workshop you leave your creations to be cast into silver (or gold) and completed to a finish of your choice. No experience is necessary. A typical Ring Fling takes 2½ – 3 hours with a short break for tea and coffee.
The $139 package includes the workshop and refreshments. Materials (silver or gold) are extra. An average silver ring will cost somewhere between 30-80$ depending on how heavy your ring design is. Workshops are small groups of 4-6 people.
