Unequivocal Ambivalence, Maico Camilo’s first exhibition in New Zealand: Refinery ArtSpace
Unequivocal Ambivalence, Maico Camilo’s first exhibition in New Zealand since relocating to Nelson in May last year with his husband Lyndon and their baby “dog” Harry. Maico is a contemporary painter originally from Brazil who enjoys working in large format and has exhibited widely internationally and has paintings in private and public collections throughout the world.
“My work demands us to discover for ourselves what we perceive we are seeing. My current projects are essentially hiding the obvious within the artwork itself. I am deliberately diminishing the clarity and then the final step within the artwork is creating a linear view of the world, providing the definition that we are searching for in each piece.”
We are looking forward to presenting this stunning exhibition.
Maico is generously donating 35% of his sales from this exhibition to the Cancer Society.
Opening Celebration: 5.30 Wednesday 27th April.
We are also proud to announce Courageous Conversations are coming to the Refinery ArtSpace for an extended season from May 1st – May 30th.
Courageous Conversations is a 4 part mini series where a migrant to New Zealand gets to tell their story to an inquisitive and sensitive New Zealand listener.
The Storytellers have all faced challenging experiences as part of their relocation to NZ.
The interviewers are well known Nelsonians and are keen to get a better understanding and empathy of the migrant’s story.
Each episode is approx 15-25 minutes.
The 4 conversations will play on loop at Refinery ArtSpace. There will also be a series of portraits and behind the scene photos displayed in the space to show the process of the project.
