Another recent make by Mel
“After Keren taught me to spin last year the goal straight away became to knit a jumper from my own handspun yarn, and here it is all finished.
The deep brown is from a Merino sheep living in Mason Bay, Rakiura. I fell in love with this fibre while spinning up a sample for the shop – it is the peak of rustic comfort and warm enough to wear in the mountains.
While is it rewarding to create something tangible – the finished product – I find it’s just a bonus compared to the actual process of spinning and knitting.
Most of us are having a hard time at the moment, in one way or another. During the past couple of years I have found much needed serenity in the fibre arts. It is a deeply grounding experience and an essential haven from the chaos of life.”
If you’ve been thinking about taking up a new hobby, the fibre arts will love you as much as you love them.
