Special Olympics Basketball Nelson: Fortunate To Be Hosted By The International Antarctica Centre
Well what an amazing trip away with our development team to Rangiora over the weekend.
Special thanks to our hosts, Special Olympics North Canterbury, (special people and great hosts). Thanks also for Special Olympics Canterbury for joining the weekend and making it such an amazing event for all involved.
Special thanks to the International Antarctic Centre in Christchurch for hosting us https://www.iceberg.co.nz/, an excellent tour with our team experiencing a -18 degree polar blast.
Special thanks also to Bowater Toyota for use of your community van once again https://www.toyota.co.nz/bowater-toyota/ (You Rock!)
To our sponsors, without you this would not be possible! ‘From all of us thank you’ (all over again): Nelson Pine Industries, NZ King Salmon, NBS, Scott Construction, Port Nelson, Nelson Honey, Matthews Eyewear & Eyecare, Bowater Toyota, Mike Pero Real Estate and Link Business Brokers.
To Wayne (head coach) and Brent and Justin (two caregivers), lovely to have you both on this trip, superb work, thank you.
Coming home on Sunday was for many the 1st time in the snow, which really capped off an excellent weekend.
To all of our travelling athletes, thanks to each of you, really proud of you and how you represented Special Olympics Nelson.
Everyone home safely, no injuries, PERFECT!!!
Special Olympics Basketball, Nelson was really fortunate to be hosted by the International Antarctica Centre, for a two-hour tour.
All 10 athletes first experienced ten minutes in a Hagglund Field trip, then in a storm force polar blizzard with temperatures down to -18 degrees, then feeding of the penguins and a 4D movie experience and finished with some time with the huskies. Highlights, Penguins and Huskies, but the 4D movie experience was first class.
Special thanks to the team at https://www.iceberg.co.nz/, a really nice team building exercise for our development team, said Wayne Bowen (Head Coach) Special Olympics Basketball Nelson. We could have spent half a day there easily, world class.
Our athletes were in town for a Special Olympics Basketball training workshop in Rangiora together with North Canterbury (hosts) and Canterbury.
