Appleby Farms – fresh is best!
We love a good old kiwi story about fair dinkum people getting stuck in and havin’ a go – often with no idea what may happen as a result! This is certainly true of Appleby Farms.
And their story is pretty unique – you don’t come across many ice cream manufacturers who own the paddocks, grow the grass, nurture their own cows and churn their nutritious A2-protein milk and cream into the best-tasting ice cream around. With a purpose-built creamery just 15 minutes down the road from their family farms, the milk and cream is always fresh. No fake ingredients or textures needed – just straight-up, real New Zealand dairy, fresh from the family farm.
Since selling their first scoop in December 2017, they have won national awards and have a great shop in the heart of Nelson City so anyone can enjoy their tasty masterpieces.
“Because we love ‘local’, we work with New Zealand suppliers wherever we can, and source ingredients from in and around Nelson every chance we get. Like our boysenberries, which are handpicked on our family farm just up the road. And our chocolate brownie, which is handmade in town.” says Kristy Giles, co-founder and the genius responsible for developing the mind-blowing flavour bombs.

Appleby Farms are on a self-proclaimed mission to put smiles on faces one scoop at a time. And although their delicious, premium ice cream is only full of the good stuff, they recognised a gap in the market for a healthier alternative. That’s why they recently developed their new frozen yoghurt range for everyone to enjoy – it’s what they call a permissible indulgence.

During summer, you will also find Appleby Farms shiny silver camper van at Tahunanui beach located between the Tahuna Fun Park and the Beach Cafe.
