Matariki Festival, Te Huihui-o-Matariki 2023

Nelson City Council is hosting the Matariki Festival, Te Huihui-o-Matariki 2023 in collaboration with Te Tauihu o Te Waka-a-Maui Māori Culture Council and Te Kotahi o Te Tauihu Charitable Trust.

This year’s event will kickoff with Taka Kara Tīpuna, the Regional Secondary School Kapa Haka Competitions from 9.00am – 3.00pm. Tickets can be purchased form Eventbrite.

The Matariki Market will open at 5.00pm – 9.00pm, offering a diverse range of food as well as Māori arts and crafts for sale.

*There will be no access to cash withdrawals onsite and limited access for eftpos transactions, so please bring cash.

Performances by special guests Maaka Fiso, Awhimai Fraser and the Modern Māori Quartet and more will begin at 5.00pm and will conclude at 9.00pm. Koha will be collected on entry to evening entertainment, this will be donated to a local chairty.
