This a rare perk of the job! It’s a huge misconception that Zookeepers get to cuddle animals all day. We actually have very little contact with most of them and get to know them largely through picking up their poo! So when we have a moment like Claire is having with Mafy, a black and white ruffed lemur, it’s pretty exciting!
Claire has been training Mafy to be comfortable climbing on her lap and to be touched all over. This will allow stress free health checks while the lemur thinks he’s just getting a good ole scratch.
