Sanctuary Open Day – Big Green Day Out – SUNDAY 29 OCTOBER – free entry
The much-anticipated Brook Waimārama Sanctuary Open Day is happening again on Sunday 29 October from 10am – 4pm!
Get the family together for Nelson’s Big Green Day Out and come along to celebrate Aotearoa’s native flora and fauna in an idyllic setting. Enjoy delicious street food, learn about key conservation milestones, bask in the beauty of the pristine Waimārama stream, take a stroll along peaceful bush tracks or simply sit back and enjoy the birdsong.

With Free Entry, the Big Green Day Out is the perfect educational and fun day out for everyone.

This year we are excited to announce that our theme is Freshwater Ecology, and we’ve got some wonderful free activities planned for the whole family to enjoy. Check out our freshwater activity zone in the picnic area, check out the arts and crafts activities at the Kidzone, or even drop-in and partake in freshwater themed sculpture workshop! We’ll also have a talk from Ian Miller on the giant carnivorous snails known as powelliphanta, plus heaps of other cool opportunities to explore the Sanctuary and learn about conservation in action. Be sure to bring some cash along for our delicious food vendors too!

GO GREEN and let’s work together to reduce waste at our Open Day!

Here’s three main ways that you can help:

1. Bring your own refillable drink bottles, keep cups and containers for food and drink
2. Ditch the car and choose to bike or bus to the Sanctuary! You can find the bus routes at www.ebus.nz
3. Be sure not to leave any rubbish or waste behind in the Sanctuary. Pop-in and chat to our volunteers running the bin station to dispose of any items and learn about how correct sorting can reduce our collective landfill waste.
