Nelson Hospice Shop Refresh
For the first time since opening its doors in June 2010 the Nelson Hospice Shop in Bridge Street has had a makeover.
A freshening up of the interior along with more of a focus on a “boutique style” op shopping experience, has given the shop a lift just before the busy summer period.
With a lot of talk recently in the community on how to revitalise the city centre, the restyling of the much-loved Nelson Hospice Shop is in keeping with what Nelson City is known for. Its lovely assortment of smaller specialty shops and vibrant cafe & restaurant scene.
The five Nelson Tasman Hospice Shops around the region are known for the quality of the goods on offer for sale. All the money raised stays locally and enables Nelson Tasman Hospice to provide specialist palliative care services for people of all ages with life-limiting illnesses, supporting them, their whānau and carers, through illness, death and bereavement. Whilst these services are free to the community they come at a significant cost and the income from all five shops are crucial to the services ongoing viability.
Thanks to the dedication of the amazing colleagues supported by invaluable volunteers, the hospice shops successfully raise almost half of the $3.5 million shortfall in hospice funding each year.
Dianne Timbs, manager of the Nelson Hospice Shop is rightly proud of her shop and her volunteers. She is deeply connected to hospice and the motto of the Hospice Shops ‘Turning second hands goods into first class care’ is never far from anyone’s minds. “Every dollar that I am able to earn through the shop gets returned directly to our community by supporting local hospice care,” she says. “The contributions of generous donors are the lifeblood of our op shop. With your support, we are able to stock our shelves with a diverse range of quality items. This makes sure our customers can find hidden gems while supporting a good cause.”
Whether you enjoy finding a hidden treasure, are looking for an affordable and fun shopping outing or wanting somewhere to donate your quality unused goods, your support enables patients being supported by Nelson Tasman Hospice to live well and leave well.
Make sure you take the time to come instore and have a look for yourself!
