Consistency…

Greetings dear friends & fellow navigators, & welcome to my world again this week. I believe I am one of the more consistent people you will ever meet. Other than immediate deadlines, what else pushes a person to complete their tasks? If you do attempt completing any task today, how to make sure you do it long enough to see the desired results?

The steps are very basic & general. You must have heard of them here & there through your career or at training somewhere. But we often do not give any importance to those things ~ right? It is not even your fault. Happened to me as well. We all like to think we are better than others. Even though some of our habits are below average, we do not admit it, do we?

What I have seen from my previous patterns & from observing people around me is not many people plan. Due to the tendency to believe we are better than others, we say things like “jo hoga dekha jayega” (we will see whatever happens). Or, as my mother would say; “Play it By Ear…”

I used to say this a lot. It was how I spent much of my entire school life, unless it was something I particularly enjoyed or specifically wanted to achieve. Typically, without any planning. Without any goals.

So, trust me when I say, “ab jo ho raha hai vo dekha nahi jaa raha”1. (The things happening now cannot be ignored). We need goals, & you need a plan to achieve any goal. I cannot make things any clearer than this.

However, we should not make a long-term goal if you are not sure. Just make a goal for today & follow it up with a plan. The plan should be something you can act on right now, immediately. This will assist getting momentum. Do not ignore the power of momentum, okay? Because when you are in this state, things will happen automatically. If the momentum breaks, it will be difficult to stay consistent because then you will be easily distracted.

We all need to get into the habit of goal setting & planning. Even for the smallest of things. This will help build discipline, momentum, & consistency ~ all in one.

Start with the basics because this is what needs repairing. Once the foundation is strong ~ nothing will ever be too difficult to accomplish. Because nothing ever is a lot. Even the biggest of things are accomplished by small, consistent efforts.

For example ~ I have been meditating for over three years now & writing this blog 818 weeks; this is # 819. And you know what? It feels good. It is a challenge & it does help build consistency. This way, I will show myself I can be consistent with proof.

Once I am in this frame of mind, I will add more things to my to-do list. What you do not have to do is ~ be vague. For example, if I said, you will write a blog today. This is super vague. But when I say ~ I will go to the library, write a 100-word intro for a client article, & follow it up with something specific requiring attention.

You get the point, right? Chances are ~ now I will complete all this. Maybe not in the same order, but things will get done. This is the important point.

And this is how I try my level best to stay consistent. But I still fail, occassionally, okay? So these are not some secret magic potions which will make you consistent like a robot. Do you know why? Because you are not a robot. You are a human, & it is very human to get distracted.

Just few observations again dear friends, & provide merely an opinion in my world. Thank you again for stopping by, I appreciate your being here. If my journey encourages you also, all is well with my soul. I hope your days are filled with love & affection. Looking forward to being back next time; this is Kenn Butler in Paradise, Nelson with my best wishes.
