Responding…
Greetings dear friends & fellow navigators, & welcome to my world again this week. There will be days where the simple tasks do not feel so simple. Days where you know you could have achieved it all if your mind was not so tired. Days where you try to get yourself into the mindset you know you can get into but for some reason today it just is not happening.
Days where all of a sudden time has run out & instead of giving your body the break it needed you wasted a whole day pushing yourself to get through it but did not achieve anything at all. These are the days where you are too burnt out to give it everything it needs, but for some reason you still try, maybe because you are afraid of letting someone down, or letting yourself down.
Why is there so much stigma around taking a day off when your mind does not feel so good? For some reason, or maybe even no reason at all, you just cannot do it today, & this is okay.
Take the time you need to rest, to find inspiration, to remember all the little things making you happy. It is those little things which help remind us who you are, & why you do what you do.
Your mind was not created to be ‘on fire’ like this all the time, rushed & pushed beyond its limits, day after day. Normalise accepting this & stop forcing yourself to “just get through it”
when you know deep down your mind needs a break. Look after yourself, look after your mind, & see what magic you are capable.
An excellent analogy I found this week in preparation for this article, was from World War 11, Viktor Frankl was sentenced to a Nazi concentration camp. The guards deprived him of everything. They took his wife, his family & his clothes. They even stole his wedding ring. But he had one thing no one could take from him. In a classic book, he wrote: ‘The last of human freedoms is the ability to choose ‘ones attitude in a given set of circumstances.’ The guards could not take away Frankl’s’ freedom to choose his attitude.
We do not know what is going to happen tomorrow, or even today, & we cannot control all our circumstances. But we can control how we respond. We can control whether an experience makes us stronger or weaker, increases our faith or our fear, & makes us a better or bitter person. There is a saying which goes: ‘The same sunshine to melt the butter, also hardens the clay.’ 1
We all have highs & lows, but do not ever let your highs make you feel superior & never let your lows make you feel unworthy Just few observations again dear friends, & provide merely an opinion in my world. Thank you again for stopping by, I appreciate your being here. If my journey encourages you also, all is
well with my soul. I hope your days are filled with love & affection. Looking forward to being back next time; this is Kenn Butler in Paradise, Nelson with my best wishes.
