Pottery Giving Back – Nelson Clay Week 2024

For this year’s Nelson Clay Week local potter, Mark Alderson, decided he wanted to not only showcase his wonderful art but also to sell these pieces and donate 50% of the proceeds to Nelson Tasman Hospice.

He has partnered with our Nelson Tasman Hospice Shop on Bridge Street to display his beautiful hand-crafted range of bowls, planters and plates. His work includes pieces featuring the Nelson Cathedral and Boulder Bank, along with bright honeybee bowls!

We asked Mark what the inspiration is behind his creations, he said –

“All the pieces are inspired by Nelson and its natural surroundings.

The iconic Nelson Cathedral. We live right next to church hill, and I wake up every morning looking at the splendid tower. It’s a real focal point and a superb destination to bring people together in our city.

The Nelson boulder bank and its historic lighthouse is a spectacular, natural feature of our region, which I have walked along couple of times, once for charity.

The honeybee series was inspired by the colourful and essential wee creature that is so important for our ecological future, also everyone likes bees!”

Clay Week first took place in 2022 and is brought to you by the Nelson Arts Council. This event runs from 28th Sept – 4th Oct, but Marks display will stay in our shop until 20th Oct or until all pieces are sold.

Only available for in store purchase exclusively at our Nelson shop.
