Feature Artist this month is Sarah Williamson: Wall To Wall Art
Our Feature Artist this month is Sarah Williamson – Encaustic Art NZ.
Sarah combines beeswax and resin to create her encaustic artworks. This ancient technique was originally used by the Greeks, Romans and Egyptians to caulk ship hulls, but Sarah’s artwork is considerably more colourful, contemporary and arresting.
Her display includes large statement pieces as well as smaller works. Her work will be on the Feature Wall until 10th December.

Sarah’s field is encaustic art, combining materials like beeswax and resin in an ancient technique once used by the Greeks, Romans and Egyptians to caulk ship hulls.
“What’s not to like about working with encaustic?” she asks.
“From the beautiful aroma and creamy texture to diverse working options. Painting, carving, accretion, scraping, layering and sculpture are all part of my process. I’m constantly captivated by the unpredictable nature of the medium and I allow it to lead me to create intuitively.”
In addition to her Wall to Wall membership, Sarah is a resident artist at Gravity Gallery and Vineyard in Mahana.
Sarah will be taking part in the Beacon Hill Vintage Christmas Market tomorrow (Saturday) between 10am and 3pm. Beacon Hill is at 205 Paton Rd, Richmond.
