You asked for it, and we’re delighted to say we’ve made it happen.

Get set for a world of throwback fun this season as we bring you our first ever Dream11 Super Smash RETRO rounds!

Our CENTRAL STAGS and HINDS will be playing in the cult favourite striped kit this summer at *selected* home and away games – including three home doubleheaders, and taking in all three of this season’s CD home venues.

We’ll have limited edition striped RETRO Merch for sale at all our home games too: in Nelson 4 and 6 January; Palmerston North 12 January; and Napier on 15, 17 and 19 January.

While stock lasts, that is, because we know this is going to be in hot demand.

For our dedicated supporters who can’t get to a game this summer, we’ve made sure that you don’t have to miss out: there will be an opportunity to buy online, stay tuned to our channels as we bring you more info about how to order our RETRO and regular kit online this month.

Yup, that is Tony Blain’s authentic Crown bat! A lot of runs scored from that blade, back in the day.

The CENTRAL STAGS and HINDS will be mixing it up, playing in both versions of the Central playing kit – modern day and RETRO shirts – across the Dream11 Super Smash competition in 2024/25.

The T20 entertainment starts in late December when our teams open their campaign side by side in Central Otago, before heading up to our first home games and RETRO-themed round at Saxton Oval on 4 January.

It’s going to be a special day for us as we go full-on RETRO for the first time, and we know our CENTRAL STAGS T20 Head Coach, BEN SMITH, is going to feel right at home since he’s a stripey shirt ORIGINAL!

Looking good, Coach Smudger! Andre Adams in the background for Auckland too.

In fact, the stripes have a special meaning and resonance within the current-day Stags, too: our players are already in possession of one of the coveted original striped playing shirts.

To wear this particular shirt at the end of the day is the reward for being elected the team’s Player of the Day, in the changing sheds after each T20 game.

It’s a tradition that started last season, with a little help from ‘Smudger Smith’ himself.

The Stags first wore the striped kit in the 1995/96 season, and it was an instant hit. We were one of the first teams to wear striped-style shirts in New Zealand cricket.

The Stags made it famous as they dominated the early years of Cricket Max, national champions in the inaugural season!

The Hinds were also decked out in stripes for a few seasons from the mid-90s, a.k.a. the era of baggy uniforms, and the Stags went on to win the national one-day trophy (the Shell Cup) in the classic striped kit as well.

As part of our RETRO launch, CD Cricket has been very proud to collaborate with our CD Alumni, 1980s/90s BLACKCAP TONY BLAIN (Stags white-ball cap 60 and first-class cap 143) and TONI STREET (Central Hinds cap 92 and fabulously talented media personality – we like to call them our dream team!) in the big reveal of our ‘new’ classic kit.

For current-day players BRETT RANDELL and EMMA McLEOD, meeting and swapping notes with Tony & Toni for a photo session was a real honour – and you’ll see more from this special day over the coming days on our channels.

Keep an eye on our Instagram and Facebook pages for some pretty cool content as we throw it back some more, over the next couple of months.

And to all our Nelson & Marlborough Stags and Hinds Alumni – don’t forget to RSVP for our FREE Super Smash Alumni event at Saxton Oval, 4 January.

Chiller will be there and can’t wait to catch up with you all at the games! RSVP to Alumni@cdcricket.co.nz by 15 December.

It’s going to be totally skux.
