Material Matters is on now at The Suter Art Gallery

Bev Moon – BBQ Pork Buns, 2024. Wool, metal steamer, tassels, sequins, paper. Courtesy of the artist and Bergman Gallery.
Bev Moon’s piece is a heartfelt tribute to her family’s culinary traditions. Using her mother’s large metal steamer, she has crafted eight BBQ pork buns—one for each family member. This artwork beautifully intertwines personal history and cultural heritage, celebrating the warmth and togetherness of family meals.
Bev Moon describes herself as “an artist who happens to work with textiles.” While she is currently known for her textile work, she also explores sculpture, installation, painting, and even has a tertiary qualification in video production. For Bev, the choice of material depends on the story she wants to tell, ensuring the medium serves the idea.
Material Matters is on now at The Suter Art Gallery until Sunday 2 March.
