Beautiful Views…

Greeting dear friends & fellow navigators, & welcome to my world, this first issue for 2025. My inspiration the last couple of weeks has come from our Japiwis [Japanese / Kiwi grandchildren] & the many places we have visited during the beautiful time of year.

You may recall my comment last week where I had wished someone had sat me down, looked me in the eye, & said, “You are living your best days’ right now. Do not miss them.” But this is the thing about life ~ it rarely pauses to whisper such truths. It just flows, quiet & unassuming, while we are too caught up in chasing tomorrows to see the beauty in our days.

Sometimes, we stumble upon a view so breath-taking it feels almost unreal. Maybe it is a sunset spilling gold across the sky, the kind where the clouds seem to catch fire & the light stretches endlessly, painting everything in warm hues. In those moments, I find myself thinking, “Do I even deserve to see this?” It is such a simple thought, yet it hits hard. Almost like I am borrowing beauty, never mine to witness.

But there is nothing we could deserve more. The world is ours to see, to feel, to appreciate. Every tree, & drop of rain, every stretch of the horizon is part of a creation meant to be shared. I think God, or whatever greater force you believe in, did not put us here to ignore it. It would be such a shame for His most beloved creation, us; to walk through life with our eyes closed.

Taking a moment to simply look, to breathe it all in, can change everything. It does not have to be a mountaintop or a perfect beach, although we have many of those. It can be something as small as sunlight filtering through your window or the way the air smells after it rains. Life gives us these little gifts all the time; we just forget to notice them.

For me, being out in nature is where I feel this truth the most. I love how small I feel when I am sitting under the night sky. It is like being reminded there is something so much bigger than me.

Have you ever watched a plane fly overhead, as we did on Tuesday watching the Japiwis fly home? From where we stood, it became the size of a fly. But when we are on the plane, it feels massive. Perspective is everything. It grounds us. It brings balance.

When life feels heavy, & the world seems chaotic, I have found nature has a way of pulling me back. It whispers, “You are here, & you are enough.” Watching the world just exist ~ unbothered & constant gives peace. It reminds me I am a part of something much greater.

So yes, we deserve to see the beauty around us. We deserve to feel small under the stars & amazed at the colours of the sky. The world was made for us to witness it, to cherish it. Do not let it pass by unnoticed.

So, for 2025, we need to often just take a moment.
Look up, look around, & be glad you are alive to see this.

Just few observations again dear friends, & provide an opinion in my world. Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate your being here. If my journey encourages you also, all is well with my soul. Looking forward to being back next week; this is Kenn Butler in Paradise, Nelson with best wishes, especially to those who have worked through the holidays for the rest of us.
