🦖 Dress as a Dino Day
📅 Wednesday 15th January | 🕙 10am – 4:30pm
Get ready to unleash your inner dinosaur! Dress up as your favorite dinosaur and receive FREE entry to the Six Extinctions exhibition. It’s the perfect day for kids and adults alike to dive into a world of prehistoric wonders. Whether you go for a mighty T. rex or a friendly Triceratops, we can’t wait to see your dino-inspired outfits!
🌋 Etched in Earth: Geological Tales of Extinction in Aotearoa (Free Event)
📅 Sunday 19th January | 🕑 2pm
Join GNS Geologist Dr. Greg Browne for a fascinating talk about the geological history of Aotearoa and the extinction events that have shaped our environment. Explore how these events not only impacted the land but also paved the way for the biodiversity we see today. This free event is a must-attend for anyone interested in the natural history of New Zealand!
🦖🎉 Dino Day Out
📅 Saturday 25th January | 🕚 11am – 2pm
If you love dinosaurs, this is the event of the month! A jam-packed day of dino-themed activities awaits, including:
✨ Tuatara Talk (11am – 12pm)
Learn about tuataras, the last living relatives of dinosaurs, with a ranger from the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary. Discover how these ancient reptiles have survived through extinction events and what makes them so unique.
🎨 Dino Craft Workshop (11am – 2pm)
Let your creativity soar as you make your very own dino-inspired crafts with Jolie. From roaring T. rex models to colorful dinosaur drawings, this hands-on workshop is perfect for tamariki.
🎭 Dino Face Painting (12pm – 1pm)
Ever wanted to become a dinosaur? Now’s your chance! From fierce carnivores to gentle herbivores, let our talented face painters transform you into your favorite dinosaur.
📚 Dino Storytime (1pm – 2pm)
Gather around for captivating dinosaur stories with Whaea Kelz. Perfect for kids, this session brings the wonders of the prehistoric world to life with exciting tales of adventure.
✨ Design a Dino Competition
Don’t miss out on the chance to unleash your imagination! Enter the Design a Dino competition before the 24th January for a chance to win ROAR-some prizes. Design your own dinosaur, name it, and describe its features—then submit your entry online or at the museum. The creativity we’ve seen so far has been incredible, so we can’t wait to see more designs!
✨ Quiet Hour – Every Tuesday
🕓 4pm – 5pm
For those who prefer a more peaceful experience, enjoy a quieter, sensory-friendly visit during Quiet Hour. Whether you’re looking for a calm, relaxed museum experience or have specific sensory needs, this hour is designed with you in mind.
📚 Reminder: Isel Park Research Facility, Research Service, and Image Order Service Closed Until 19th January 2025
Please note that these services will be unavailable until mid-January, but don’t let that stop you from visiting the museum! We have plenty of exciting events and exhibitions to explore during this time.
