Only 3 weeks left to experience Six Extinctions: Nelson Provincial Museum

Come face-to-face with the mighty Dromornis stirtoni, aka the “Thunder Bird” or the “Demon Duck of Doom” 🐦⚡.
This prehistoric giant wasn’t your average bird—it stood up to 3 meters tall, weighed 500kg, and ruled ancient Australia around 8 million years ago.
🌿 Despite its fierce appearance, Dromornis was likely a gentle giant, feasting on tough plants with its crushing beak (though some scientists think it may have eaten small animals too).
📜 Fun fact: Its nickname “Demon Duck of Doom” comes from its oversized body, duck-like features, and sheer prehistoric power. Its official name combines Greek for “running bird” (dromaios) with a tribute to paleontologist Alan Stirton.
🦴 Don’t miss your chance to see this jaw-dropping creature up close!
