The Tasman Rugby Union is inviting applications for independent directors

The Tasman Rugby Union is inviting applications for independent directors to join its Board. Formed in 2006 through the amalgamation of the Nelson Bays and Marlborough sub-unions, the Tasman Rugby Union is the youngest of New Zealand’s Provincial Unions and one of its most successful. Tasman’s representative team, the Tasman Mako, has won the national championship (2014), back-to-back premierships (2019 and 2020), and, for the first time, the Ranfurly Shield in 2024. The Union also competes in the Farah Palmer Cup (FPC), New Zealand’s premier women’s rugby competition.
Serving over 5,400 participants – from under-6 through to adult grades, across both male and female teams – Tasman Rugby remains firmly committed to its grassroots community game while also supporting high performance pathways.
The Board of the Tasman Rugby Union comprises seven members: two representatives from the Marlborough Sub-Union, two from the Nelson Bays Sub-Union, and three independent directors. The terms of office are for three years, with rotation.
We are now seeking applications for independent directors who possess strong governance experience, a passion for both community and high-performance sport, and the skills necessary to guide Tasman Rugby into its next phase of growth and achievement.
An independent Appointments Panel will assess all applications before selecting the successful candidates. If you are interested in contributing to the future of rugby in the Tasman region, please submit your application outlining your relevant experience and governance background to:
steve@tasmanrugby.co.nz
Applications close Friday, May 30th.
You can contact us directly to ask any questions you may have.
