Member spotlight on @sjccreativenz -She’s taking a small hiatus at the mo but will return!
What is your typical morning routine like?
Known to be chaotic! Getting my girls ready for school can be challenging. After school drop off my treat is coming home and making a coffee to rebalance myself. Quick tidy then depending on the weather and my mood I will either be in the studio mixing up trouble with resin or if it’s rainy I’ll focus on jewellery and lampshades in the comfort of the lounge. My ADHD acts as a curse and a blessing so you will find I drift from one project to the next.
What elements are most important for you to be productive and creative?
Uninterrupted time. If I get interrupted I lose my flow. Luckily I work from home but it can still happen. I can be my own worst enemy by exiting the studio door and then getting distracted by weeds in the garden then returning 2 hours later forgetting what I was working on. Also supplies and tools of the trade.
What are your primary sources of inspiration, and how do they translate into your work?
The sea, the sky, nature would be where I draw my inspiration. If anyone knows my work well they will know turquoise is my favourite colour to work with. With my resin work I love how the colours inter blend and flow representing the ocean or water.
What type of work environment makes you happiest and most productive?
I’m in what we call a creative funk right now. My work environment can be a bit chaotic but has recently had a forced reboot due to the flooding. I’m looking forward to creating some new work in my now cleansed studio.
Do you have a favourite podcast or album you like to listen to while you work?
I’ve been enjoying the podcast ‘strangers on a bench’- snippets of real characters and life stories. Also Joe Tippens has been inspiring for alternative methods to treat our dog going through a cancer journey. Music wise depends on the mood – if I’m feeling like I need to focus then I will listen to something chilled like Fat Freddys, TOI or Harbour City Electric. I’ve been enjoying 90s stuff like the pixies, the breeders, jeff buckley. If I feel like pumping something it will be Shapeshifter or Sola Rosa
