Member Spotlight – Solo Label: Little Beehive Co-op

Member Spotlight Solo Label
It’s me! I’m the one that takes care of all the social media here and am the proud owner of Little Beehive. While the Beehive is my main gig I still try to squeeze in my side hustle of sewing for Solo Label

What is your typical morning routine like, and how does it prepare you for your creative work?
My mornings often involve school drop offs, taking care of my sour dough, a quick game of wordle, & some exercise.

What elements are most important for you to be productive and creative?
Occasionally I get consecutive days to be in my sewing studio which I love, I can start and finish multiple projects without having to rush anything. I also like to have a bit of a plan or at least have my fabric cut out the night before as that’s quite a time consuming part of a project.

What are your primary sources of inspiration, and how do they translate into your work?
I always admire people with great style and will often draw inspiration from what someone else is wearing. For me fabric is key, when I don’t have anything I love in my stash my inspiration drops. I love the hunt of matching a design with fabric.

What type of work environment makes you happiest and most productive?
I tend to work in chaos when I’m mid project but starting with an organised workspace makes me a lot more productive. Even though I have a great sewing studio at the back of Little Beehive, sometimes I feel like I’ll be more productive at home so I’ll bring my domestic sewing machines with me & take over the dining room table, dragging threads and dropping pins all through the house!

Do you have a favourite podcast or album you like to listen to while you work?
I really need to invest in some noise cancelling headphones as my machines are quite noisy. Most of the time I’ll start with music, I have an eclectic taste but will avoid any of the great tunes we play in the shop that I hear on repeat. For podcasts, I enjoy a real life story or something I can learn from – I listened to about 20 episodes of a Ky Dickens podcast in 2 days as I got so caught up in it. For real life stories I listen to – This is love, The Moth & This American Life.
