Mako head north after turbo-charging season
The Tasman Mako will make the long trip north this weekend with a spring in their step after notching up a convincing first win of the season.

Their 49-17 victory over Manawatū at Trafalgar Park on Saturday put them back on track after their heavy opening loss to Bay of Plenty. Returning All Black Leicester Fainga’anuku made an impressive return with two tries, including a solo effort where he used footwork and power to shatter the Manawatū defence.
The Mako travel to Whangarei to take on Northland on Saturday afternoon at Semenoff Stadium.
As impressive as Fainga’anuku’s try was, it was bettered by another player in red and blue – replacement Mako women’s prop Fai Auimatagi’s 30-metre run through the Wellington Pride defence.
That was the highlight of Tasman’s Farah Palmer Cup season opener, as they went down 39-7 to the capital visitors.
The Tasman women also travel to Northland on Saturday, taking on the home side at after the men’s game.
