Spring Clean is on a roll

Spring Clean is on a roll
There are loads of things happening to make our city sparkle!

We’ve been getting heaps of feedback and enquiries about Spring Clean Whakatū Nelson from people enjoying what’s been happening so far, as well as from people and businesses keen to be involved.

The official dates are 11-19 October, but why wait, when every day is a great day for spring cleaning.

Selwyn Place Makeover

This project started last year, lots of the tenants along Selwyn Place joining in the gardening project for Spring Clean 2024. And then Thompson Property Group painted the building – so cool!

Next step was Magenta Creative Space putting up a couple of murals by local artists Alicia Rocha and Allison Tuckwell, followed by an ArtDoor by Samara Davis. Nelson Taxis joined in by running a kids competition to get some very cool drawings of taxis to adorn their walls.

And finally this week, we installed three more ArtDoors, and the whole building looks amazing! We really encourage you to take a stroll and enjoy the transformation.

Big thanks to Marika and Paul from Speedy Signs Nelson for doing such a terrific job, and to Tim Cuff for the photos.

From the top, that’s Audrey Anderson, Karolina Serrano, Alicia Rocha and Allison Tuckwell. There’s also new ArtDoors by Samara Davis and Tim Cuff. Click on their names to learn more about the artworks. A big shout out to Paul at Nelson Taxis for stepping in to model their refreshed entrance complete with kids drawings of taxis! Let the planting, cleaning and art-installing continue!

It’s getting busy! Big applause to Jo and Russell at Shine Design for going above and beyond to make their patch of the city sparkle!

What’s happening over the next few weeks:
– we’re talking to tenants and owners along New St to organise a group effort.
– more Angel Gardeners in Bridge St, Vanguard St and more. These are all little gardens usually out the front of businesses that just need a bit of attention to start blooming for us all to admire.
– YMCA’s Nelson Training Centre are enjoying their new premises on Vanguard St, and are keen to give the outside area a spruce up. Go along and check it out on Thursdays when they’re serving up tasty and cheap lunches. Follow them on Facebook. Yummy!
– Staff from SBS Bank Nelson will be giving their frontage a super wash and clean.

Spring Clean Whakatū Nelson is an encouragement to all inner-city businesses, organisations and anyone who uses the city, to get your thinking caps on about how you can join in. It might be cleaning, planting, or a general tidy up – a little effort has big results!
