Beach bus returns with new route

The Tāhuna Summer Beach Bus will return to Nelson over the busy holiday period with the addition of a new route and stop.

The red, double-decker bus will operate daily from December 27 to January 18, running for three weeks between Tāhuna Beach Holiday Park, Tāhunanui Beach and Nelson City.

For the first time in a decade, the route has been expanded to include a stop at the Nelson Classic Car Museum.

Tāhuna Beach Holiday Park marketing manager Debbie Armatage said the change added value to a service that had become a summer staple, giving locals and visitors an easy way to get around during the busy holiday period.

The updated loop would travel from the Holiday Park to the Classic Car Museum, then into Nelson City, before returning via Tāhunanui Beach and along Rocks Rd back to the Holiday Park.

Passengers could also access to the Holiday Park’s mini-golf and café, which were open to the public, she said.

Nelson Airport had joined the service as sponsor through its community engagement programme. The support helped the holiday park continue operating the Beach Bus, which does not cover its costs each year.

“The Summer Beach Bus is more than just transport ‒ it’s part of the holiday experience,” Armatage said.

“Adding the Classic Car Museum gives families and guests another special stop along the way.”

Departure times remain unchanged, with buses leaving the holiday park on the hour and Nelson City on the half hour from lower Trafalgar St.

Tickets are available from the holiday park reception, or on the bus.
