Tuku returns to Nelson

The much-loved Tuku Festival will return to Nelson from March through April 2026, inviting the community to come together once again to celebrate the stories that make our region unique.

Running over six weeks, Tuku 2026 will showcase everything from music and performance to history, heritage and cultural experiences. With events designed for all ages and interests, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Last year’s festival delivered more than 100 events across the six-week programme and strong participation from across the community.

First established in 2010 as Nelson Heritage Week, the festival ran for nine years before being reimagined and gifted the te reo Māori name Tuku, meaning “to share” or “exchange”. The name reflects the festival’s purpose — to share our diverse stories, histories and heritage — and acknowledges the importance of biculturalism within Aotearoa New Zealand.

Mark your calendars now and get ready to be part of Tuku 2026, a festival that celebrates who we are and what we share as a community. The program will be released soon.
