Creative Classes at The Suter This Term
Art classes at The Suter in Term 2
There’s a lot happening at The Suter next term.
If you’ve been meaning to try something creative — or you’ve got a child who loves making things — our Term Two classes are a nice way to build that into the week.
Kids & Teens
Our after-school classes run across the week for different age groups. They’re relaxed, hands-on sessions where kids can try different materials, take ideas from what’s on in the gallery, and make their own work.
Suter Kids’ Club:
- Mondays: 3.30–4.45pm – Intermediate & Junior Secondary
- Tuesday: 3.30–4.30pm – School Years 4–6
- Wednesday: 3.30–4.30pm – School Years 1–3 (ages 6+)
- Friday: 3.30–4.30pm – School Years 1–6
Runs 20 April – 3 July
Adults
We’re running two daytime classes this term.
Drawing & Painting (with Mark Dunstan)
A more traditional studio class, focused on building skills over time — observation, technique, and developing your own way of working.
- Thursdays, 1.15–3.15pm
23 April – 2 July
Drawing & Mixed Media (with Lily)
A looser, more exploratory class using a mix of materials — good if you’re keen to experiment and try different approaches to drawing.
- Fridays, 10.00am–12.00pm
24 April – 3 July
Both classes are small groups, and people come in at all levels, so it’s a pretty easy place to start (or start again).
School Holiday Workshops
(ages 7-12)
We’re also running a small series of holiday workshops in April — a good option if you’re looking for something creative (and a bit hands-on) during the break.
Each session is based on current exhibitions and led by our tutors in a relaxed, supportive setting.
Workshops include:
- Harakeke weaving (make a simple woven form)
- Clay taonga (create a small pendant using natural textures)
- Mixed media self-portrait (inspired by Robyn Kahukiwa)
Schedule:
- Mon 13 April – Harakeke weaving (am) / Clay taonga (pm)
- Tue 14 April – Clay taonga (am) / Self portrait (pm)
- Wed 15 April – Self portrait (am) / Harakeke weaving (pm)
If any of that sounds like you (or your household), you can take a look at what’s on and find a class that fits.
