Getting Through…
Greeting dear friends & fellow navigators, & welcome to my world this week. Wounds I see, tears I feel, yet the light waits on the other side of every storm. 1 I have had a few injuries in recent weeks, my hip, right foot metatarsal & ankle, & regretfully these have taken a toll on my normal activities.
When I was diagnosed with arthritis @ age 27, I went through what I thought was common-sense rehabilitation process & learnt from my Rheumatologist in Christchurch: the only way out is through & why sitting still never heals, but continued movement assists with rehabilitation. For 42 years…
I know life often places us in moments where we do not want to face times which confuse, hurt or make us feel small. Sometimes it is not just pain, it is disappointment, fear, hurt or the weight of our own mistakes. Often, we see our wounds, & it feels easier to just sit still, stare at what is broken, & wish things could have been different.
But the kindest thing we can do is we have to go through them. Not in the pause, stillness or just sitting back with folded hands. Sometimes, situations in life leave you feeling powerless, but it is important to remember on these occasions one must just see the bigger picture.
I know there are so many emotions, & sometimes situations come into our lives where we cannot do anything but go through them. However, eventually, we come out on the other side because otherwise, what can we do?
We cannot just sit & watch our lives collapse or stare at wounds which might never heal if we do not first give ourselves the chance to heal. As the poet Rainer Maria Rilke said, “Let everything happen to you, beauty & terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final.”
We might only see our wounds, & they might feel overwhelming, but we must understand them & then go through them. You may wonder, “Why did this happen to me?” or “Why now?” Sometimes there is no clear answer, but the result lies in perspective.
Life is not just about the wound itself; it is about the growth to come from facing it. If we only focus on what hurts, we miss the bigger picture, the lessons, the strength, & the quiet clarity to follow hardship.
Going through is an active choice. It is picking yourself up when you could stay in despair. It is taking little steps even when your heart wants to remain still.
You may not be able to heal every wound immediately, but every action you take toward understanding, forgiveness, or moving forward is proof of resilience. It shows you are willing to live fully, feel deeply, & continue despite uncertainty.
You see your wounds, you feel them, & yet you keep going because life asks you to move forward, to learn, to grow, & to eventually find strength & clarity. Healing, understanding, & strength come from actively going through our experiences not avoiding them.
The only way out is through; through the hard, the heavy, the confusing, even the overwhelming, & finally, into a wiser, calmer, & more understanding place. Just few observations again dear friends & provide an opinion in my world. Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate your being here. If my journey encourages you also, all is well with my soul. Looking forward to next week; this is Kenn Butler in Paradise, Nelson with best wishes.
