High Five Heroes
New Bridge Street game turns high fives into rewards
Bridge Street meets augmented reality with a new mobile game launched by the Bridge to Better team – High Five Heroes.
Familiar faces on Bridge Street, including Nelson’s Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Gentle Ged, have been transformed into animated characters and giving them a virtual high five could earn you points and rewards!
“This is such a fun way to showcase the people working behind the scenes on Bridge Street every day,” says Deputy Mayor Pete Rainey.
“While roadworks, traffic management and construction activity are often the most visible parts of a project, the game features all of these elements from team members to diggers, pipes and road cones.”
The game is designed to encourage more foot traffic into the city centre, giving families another reason to spend time on Bridge Street.
Playing the game allows people to collect points and climb the leaderboard, with monthly and quarterly prizes of Bridge Street Bucks that can be spent at Bridge Street retailers. Purchases made with participating Bridge Street businesses will also earn players additional points, providing a boost to businesses and city centre activity.
Visitors to Bridge Street can choose to play High Five Heroes using augmented reality or in a 2D format, depending on how they want to experience the game. Along the way, players tap on in-game characters to “high five” them, earning points with each character collected. Different characters are worth different points, encouraging players to keep exploring and build their score.
“We hope people of all ages have fun with it,” says Deputy Mayor Pete Rainey.
“It’s a creative way to support local businesses, spend time in the city centre and see Bridge Street through a different lens.”
