The Nelson Women’s Club, founded 26th July 1926, is Nelson’s historic women’s club located at the top of Trafalgar Street. 2026 is the Club’s Centenary year, and Club members are enjoying many special events throughout this auspicious year.A special centenary invitation is extended to new club members to join. This is a great way to meet new people, and we invite you to contact us by email or phone. Many of the Founding Club members’ descendants continue as members today.
The Purpose of the Nelson Women’s Club is for women of all ages to gather at informal social and club events. The Club is a nurturing and ideal place for women to meet new friends and to become actively involved in Nelson City. Members very much enjoy Club social occasions, with a licensed bar, organised programmes and Club Circles:Bridge Circle is very popular and was the first Club Circle to form in 1926.
Garden Group – visiting gardens, learning how to grow food and flowers.
Art & About – monthly trips to galleries and other interesting places.
Literary – book discussions, visiting authors.
Mahjong – fun and easy to learn.
Fit Club – gentle, enjoyable fit class to start our week on Monday mornings.
Drama – a great chance to meet a new and reinvented self.
Crafts – fabulously creative in so many areas, this is such an inspiring circle to join.
Wednesday Social – great new adventures each month, even enjoying a Nelson Harbour Cruise.
Movie Club – no need to attend movies alone, you have friends.
Throughout the year, private and open club events where members participate with invitations extended to friends and partners – Club Luncheons, Cocktail Parties, Club Christmas Party, High Teas, Private Functions.Club Balcony – a great space to meet up, enjoy watching the world go by – action on Trafalgar Street and the Cathedral steps. The Club Balcony atmosphere is especially joyful during Nelson City events such as the Christmas Eve Carol Singing, New Year’s Eve, Nelson City live stage music – events like The Spectacle.
Tradition continues as an integral part of daily Club life.
Club Library – a quiet, cosy space to relax, read, have laptop time, and hold private meetings.
The Club is also available for Members to arrange private events such as special celebrations, charity fundraisers and conferences.
