Plenty of Fringe treats on offer

The Nelson Fringe Festival programme has something for everyone including drama, improv, comedy, dance
and couple of stand-up comedians. With over 40 shows performing in the Nelson Fringe Festival there will be something to tantalise everyone’s tastebuds.
A few of the highlights include Pat Goldsack’s Swingers Club and Brothel by Katie Boyle R18+
A one woman comedy performed by Shakespearean actress Katie Boyle, sets up an old lady in the least likely environment. Patricia Goldsack, known as Pat to her friends and lovers, has toured New Zealand for the last 4 decades with her Swingers club (with the downstairs brothel). Looking to make a dime in her old age, and lots of new and naked friends, she brings the locals in with her so they can really explore how close 2 degrees is and whether we can make that separation smaller.

The War Prayer Concert by Mark Raffills The War Prayer Concert combines the talents of poet Mark Raffills, late of Golden Bay and currently on grandparent duty north of Auckland, projectionist and musician Phill Simmonds from Raumati South, singer/songwriter Lisa Williams from Onekaka in Golden Bay, singer/songwriter Leigh Strange from Collingwood in Golden Bay and director Ronnie Short from Golden Bay.

Drop the mask by Trance Mask France
As the night draws to a close in Pauline’s Bar, people confess their deepest secrets. It’s a good place to find a sympathetic ear, someone who won’t judge but rather console, and even offer some unexpected advice. The show is entirely unscripted, and features actors both with and without masks.

Laura Irish Nelson Fringe Festival Artistic Director comments “As an improv junkie I’m looking forward to the
show or workshop by Pauline Calme (Drop the Mask), Katherine Weaver (Monster of the Week), Brendon
Bennetts (Friend Request) and Daniel Allan (An Evening with Lord Nelson and Off Book). I’m also looking
forward to Jon Bennetts bringing two shows (Pretending Things are a Cock and Fire in the Meth Lab), I could watch him read the phone book. But what makes me the most excited is the growing list of very talented revisiting artists who can’t get enough of the Nelson Fringe and have become a part of our Nelson Fringe family, artists like Justin White (The Thinking Person’s Idiot), Georgina Sivier and George Fenn (Double Georgie Pie – A Ballet), John Crick (Kauri Jack – All Shook Up), Jennifer O’Sullivan (Create Your Own Code of Conduct), Alexander Sparrow (Enigma), Aimee Smith (Deep South Caesar) and Cam McCleod (Toxic Mas).

Stu Dalton Nelson Fringe Festival Marketing Manager comments “ It’s hard to choose what to go and see as
there’s so much on offer. I’m really looking forward to seeing as much as I can during the festival but will
make sure I don’t miss local Daniel Allan in the performance of An Evening with Lord Nelson, reliving the 90’s
with 2 Dope Teenz – Aaron Pyke and Alayne Dick and seeing some circus with the show BALLISTA by 3 Ring
Riot Ltd.

The Festival has kept ticket prices low again this year to make it accessible for everyone to see something.
This year you can pay what you can from $12 to $32. Stu Dalton, Nelson Fringe festival Marketing Manager
comments “I’m really enthusiastic about making shows and events accessible to everyone and not having
barriers in place. The pay what you can price ensures this but also means that you can go and see multiple
show in the same night. There is also a diverse range of shows. The 2018 Nelson Fringe Festival has
something for everyone including a Bubble Show for kids, Stand-up Comedy, Improv, Circus Acts, Dance and
more.”

first week of May, this year it will start on April 27 to May 6. The Nelson Fringe Festival is a ten day
celebration of fringy theatre awesomeness – with workshops taught during the day and performances by
