Crowe Horwath Nelson appoints new Tax Specialist
The Nelson Tasman region’s largest business advisory and accountancy firm Crowe Horwath is pleased to announce the appointment of Alex Davidson as Tax Specialist for Nelson Tasman and Marlborough. An Associate Partner with Crowe Horwath for three years, Alex has recently relocated with his family from the Wellington office to lead and support the Tax Advisory team for the Nelson Marlborough region.
Alex brings a unique combination to his new role. Along with 19 years of experience in accounting, commercial and teaching roles, Alex has specialised in tax for the last 11 years, not only with the Wellington office but as a member of our NZ regional tax team. Alex also brings a local touch having lived in the region for 13 years previously. With a particular interest in assisting innovative businesses, including helping them move offshore, Crowe Horwath Nelson Marlborough Managing partner Susan Schuler says he is a real asset to the Crowe Horwath clients and team. “We’re excited to have Alex join us in this role. He has been with Crowe Horwath for six years and is highly respected across our Crowe Horwath group for his technical skillset, his depth of tax expertise and his ability to communicate complexities clearly to his clients. Alex has a calm and engaging demeanour and is an active listener which is a treasured quality in a Tax Adviser. He has a genuine willingness to do the best for his clients and now our region, so we are honoured he has chosen to return to Nelson with his family,” says Susan Schuler.
Alex Davidson has worked with clients in a range of sectors and areas including innovation and technology, hospitality, education, not for profits and charities, property developers and individuals recently arrived in New Zealand looking to invest in or start their own business – so he is prepared for the range of businesses in the region. He leads the tax team for Nelson Marlborough and says the regional business issues include tax areas that he particularly likes. “I enjoy solving tax issues and finding ways to achieve great outcomes for our clients. With an ever-changing legislative landscape, I make sure our clients have up-to-date information and advice on their taxation matters”.
Alex has moved back to Nelson with his wife and children and says it’s more of a homecoming than a relocation. “I started my professional career here, supported my wife with her business and completed a graduate diploma in accounting at NMIT – so moving back has been a delight. I’m rediscovering all the fantastic recreational activities available through the eyes of my children who are older now and looking forward to introducing them to the amazing back country walks we did with friends when we were here last. I can relate to my clients who choose to run their business from this region because it’s such a great lifestyle.”
Alex is a Chartered Accountant, a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand. He is a regular presenter on tax issues, including for TEO Training and has held a number of voluntary roles in local groups, often associated with his children’s interests.
