Latest News and Updates from Nelson Airport this October!
A Message from the CEO
Only three weeks now before we are fully operational from our newly completed terminal building.
From the morning of Tuesday 22nd October passengers will be checking in at the southern end of the terminal and collecting their luggage from inside the terminal at the northern end of the building.
Planning for an Official Opening on Saturday 19th October is also under way with both national and local dignitaries in attendance.
I am immensely proud of my staff, the project managers, builders and subbies in achieving this milestone which will become an historical moment for the Nelson-Tasman district.
Once operational there will be a number of projects which we will continue to work on throughout November and December; namely relocating the Air New Zealand Regional Lounge to upstairs of the southern end of the building, building permanent sites for the rental car operators and building an appropriate facility for Air NZ Cargo.
After nearly four years, Jetstar’s decision to pull out of regional flying was a disappointing day for Nelson and the aviation industry in New Zealand generally, but was a fantastic period of growth for our region.
Whilst the decision is disappointing, there has been strong growth in visitors to our region, and travellers will continue to enjoy an enhanced experience, which our remaining carriers will support.

Chief Executive Officer, Nelson Airport
