MEDIA RELEASE: 29.10.2019 Big Day for Nelson in T20 Sell-Out for First BLACKCAPS V England Game

History is set to be made on Tuesday 5 November when the England cricketers play at Saxton Oval for the first time, in a fast and furious Twenty20 encounter against our national team, the BLACKCAPS.

With almost 80 percent of tickets already sold, the 6,000 capacity venue will be brimming with cricket fans from as far afield as the UK, Singapore and South Africa.

This T20 tour of New Zealand reunites the BLACKCAPS and England in an electrifying rivalry that was witnessed in the final of the last ICC Cricket World Cup in the UK, and saw England narrowly defeat the BLACKCAPS in an agonising finish. The fast pace, and big hits of the T20 promises three hours of highly entertaining, nail-biting action against two of the world’s best teams.

Locals planning to take the afternoon off or bring the family along are advised to get in quick if they haven’t already purchased their tickets to avoid disappointment on the day.

Nelson Cricket has been working hard for several years alongside Central Districts, Sport Tasman, the NRDA and Nelson City Council to bring international cricket games to the region, and are encouraging people to bring along their gold coins to help with fundraising for the sport locally.

“Our amazing volunteers will be helping people park their cars and collecting a gold coin donation in return”, says Nettles Lamont, Chair of Nelson Cricket.

“To minimise waste, Monteith’s are serving their drinks in reusable cups. When you return your cup to the bar at the end of the game, you will get $2. Some of our young volunteers will helping to collect reusable event cups from the crowd during the day, and anyone who would like to donate $2 towards developing our local cricket teams can give them their cup as a donation.”

Ticket holders and locals living around Saxton Field are advised to leave early and be prepared for traffic queues along Main Road Stoke if they are driving in the area that afternoon. The game starts at 2pm with gates opening at 12.30pm for people wanting to beat the rush. The game is expected to finish around 5pm.

Don’t miss your chance to see the BLACKCAPS play England in Nelson. Tickets are still available from Nelson i-Site or www.ticketek.co.nz/cricket.
