The Matariki Festival Nelson 2020 fireworks display will now take place at Neale Park on Saturday 18 July 2020 at 7pm.
Parts of the Matariki celebrations (including a karakia and a mihi from kaumātua, followed by messages from Nelson Mayor Rachel Reese and Tasman Mayor Tim King and a special performance by Te Kapa o Kura Tai Waka) will be live streamed on Council’s Facebook page and YouTube channel from 6pm-7pm.
We are encouraging members of the public to view the fireworks from Akersten Street at the conclusion of the event.
A free bus service is being provided for the public to Akersten Street from the Nelson Depot and home to Richmond via Tahunanui, Bishopdale and Stoke to minimise traffic congestion. We ask people to consider bringing a torch, bike torch, lamp or lantern so that they are visible to others.
The fireworks can also be viewed from Akersten Street, Neale Park, Guppy Park, North Road, Kinzett Terrace Carpark, Peace Grove.
