Mariposa Clothing – Retail Colour Therapy

Mariposa, the iconic shop, has just reopened in a more accessible site at 220 Hardy Street, next to Cotton On.
Mariposa offers retail colour therapy with a unique and colourful range of clothes, accessories, gifts and so much more. “We hand select, personally source and directly import many of our products that complement the bold vibrant colourful streetwear that Mariposa has become so well known for” says Tracey Brignole, owner of Mariposa Clothing.

“I and my wonderful team are incredibly happy with the move; the new space is slightly larger than the old one and we are now on the sunny side of the street. We are incredibly excited to have moved and look forward to greeting our long-standing customers as well as welcoming new faces and providing them with a rewarding shopping experience.”

Mariposa also has two sister stores; Soul Footwear and Dragonfly (silver jewellery shop) You will find these a little further up Hardy Street, or in Takaka.

The very first garment store opened in Takaka in September 2005 followed by Mariposa Nelson a year later, when Tracey returned to New Zealand after living in Texas where the original business was born back in 1995. The name Mariposa is Spanish and means butterfly and it was Tracey’s mother-in-law who used to call her son and Tracey “mariposas” as they travelled the world a lot. The couple decided to start a business to fund their travels and the name Mariposa was given.

They bought clothes and artifacts from countries such as Thailand, Nepal, and Indonesia that they sold at outdoor events and music festivals. Back in New Zealand Tracey decided to open a store and she still, after 25 years, maintains long-term relationship with her suppliers all over the world. For customers who don’t make it to our sunny corner on the planet regularly, they can shop online for products from all stores. Except for some unique pieces they are constantly adding new ranges of clothing, footwear, and jewellery to the website. Tracey has a wonderful team around her and Valerie Waterhouse, the store manager at Mariposa in Nelson, is just incredible with her attention to details, eye for fashion & style, with a great sense of fun. She loves helping customers explore their personal style and make them look fabulous. You are more than welcome to check out the new shop and take your wardrobe to the next level with the beautiful unique ethnic streetwear at Mariposa.
