Many people probably have memories of a grandmother with knitting needles and a ball of yarn in their lap. In recent years, knitting has become a hobby for the younger generation, such as mothers of young children,

Some knit with a particular purpose, such as creating gifts for loved ones. Others do it as a form of relaxation. While the knitting needles (almost) move by themselves, you can let your thoughts wander or catch up with friends. Knitting has proved to have several health benefits, such as lowering blood pressure and heart rate and reducing stress.
Nelson has a yarn lovers paradise on Hardy Street. Cruella’s Natural Fibre Boutique specialises in hand-knit projects and stock knit kits for many hand-knitted garments and accessories. Sourcing the finest Merino Wool, 
Alpaca, Possum Fur, Mohair and much more, this is not only a gorgeous yarn shop.
Cruella’s offers an extensive range of knitting needles, crochet hooks and gadgets to help you in your knitting and crochet projects. The shelves are filled with high-quality colourful yarn (lovingly dyed in quirky colours by owner Keren), garments and accessories. Cruella also supplies patterns, knitting, crochet, embroidery, and tons of inspiration.
Founder and owner Keren Eggers and her small team bring something unique to the shop, and they are all here to help you. “I am a passionate knitter who loves colour, texture and style. There is something really satisfying about having a vision and creating things. In the past few years, I have really gotten into dyeing yarn and pattern writing, so I can share my love for colour and style with other people. I enjoy teaching other people to take on challenges and upskill so they can make and wear their own creations.”, says Keren.
Cruella’s offer hand-knit garments in-store; these include one-off garments and made to order. The hand-knit garments are all made by local knitters using yarns in-store. You can choose from their large selection of patterns in store or come to Cruella’s with a pattern or design for an individualised experience.
“We help you kit up yarn and a pattern so you can knit your own garment, and we offer free tuition and advice while you are knitting yarns purchased from us. So, give us a call, email, or pop in-store and tell us what you are looking for”.
Cruella’s also stock well-known and admired New Zealand made possum merino blended garments and accessories. Among the brands, they stock Koru, McDonalds, Noble Wilde and Possumdown.
At Cruellas, you will also find many colourful fun garments giving a lift to old classics. They stock the Cameron James collection of toys and patterns – their toy kits are mostly made up using beautiful alpaca merino blended yarns, soft and cuddly and much loved by children.
As the temperature has dropped it’s now time to feel cosy and warm. At Cruella’s you will find hats, gloves, socks, wraps, scarves all in NZ made possum merino.
