ENVIRONMENTAL ENRICHMENT is just as important for pocket pets as it is for cats and dogs. #Rats are highly #intelligent, sensitive creatures with complex social and communication structures. You can see multiple forms of #enrichment here in Ambrosius’ kennel during a recent hospital stay. We’ve offered a completely covered bed for him to retreat to if he’s feeling nervous, a tunnel to play or snuggle in, newspaper to shred and food to eat and explore. You can see that Ambrosius is feeling a bit shy at the start of the first video but can’t help coming out to have a look around and say hi to the camerawoman. He does this knowing he can retreat to safety at any time. In the second slide he has started #grooming (rats are also very fastidious and clean!), which lifts my heart as they only groom when happy and relaxed ❤️❤️❤️ What a gorgeous boy.
