Art Before Dark on 3 December at The Suter Art Gallery
Looking for a fun and vibrant event to kick start a summer evening? Why not explore The Suter like you have never seen it before? Art Before Dark is a free entry event set to celebrate visual and performance art, complemented with kai, kōrero and local drinks. Featuring The Suter’s exhibitions, delightful live music, mouth-watering food from Flooka’s Egyptian Kitchen, Kiwi Kai and Bacon Station, and local performers with their creative inspiration and breathtaking costumes. Starting at 6pm, this is a perfect time and place to meet up and catch up after your workweek.
Be confronted and challenged by “Kiss Me Hardy (But not like that!)”, part of The Suter’s Contemporary Art Project. These works link absurdity and art — very relevant during these current times of unease. Be grounded with the works from “Fire and Earth” featuring the very best work by clay artists from the Top of the South.
Last year Art Before Dark was an outstanding success and you will not be disappointed this year.

Fire and Earth: Contemporary Ceramics from the Top of the South
A biennial exhibition that highlights the best ceramicists in the region.
As a selected and curated exhibition, the challenge put to ceramicists was to submit their best work to create a show that conveys the breadth and quality of the clay work made in this special region. These makers have been inspired by nature, history, contemporary life and clay itself to create an array of forms. From contemporary interpretations of traditional domestic-ware to conceptual installation pieces and perfectly realised vessels, the result is an exhibition that highlights the quality of ceramics produced by some of the best makers in the country.
