Lipstick Day – Perfecting your Pout!: Woman Beauty Day Spa
29th July celebrates Lipstick Day! So, to mark the occasion, we thought we would share our top tips for perfecting your pout. Read on for all the details!
Lipstick Day – Perfecting your Pout!
1: Pout Preparation:
Preparation is key when it comes to lipstick application. You likely wouldn’t put on your foundation and blush in the morning without first going through your skincare routine. Similarly, your lips should have a mini routine of their own to prepare the perfect base. So, always exfoliate your lips before applying lipstick and follow this up with a lip balm or lip primer, letting the second product settle and soak in.
For exfoliation, we recommend Pure Fiji’s Coconut Sugar Lip Polish. It’s available in four infusions – Mango, Coconut Lime, Coconut & Honey and Coconut. Take a fingertip of the product and work into the lips in circular motions, then remove any residue.
After this, quench your lips with the hydrating protection of Jane Iredale’s LipDrink® Lip Balm SPF 15; the translucent ‘Sheer’ shade is perfect if you’re wearing this under lipstick.
2: The Line-Up:
A freshly sharpened lip pencil is an essential step in lippie application; it will enhance the natural shape of your lips and will ensure a longer-lasting finish.
If you have thin lips, you’ll want to overdraw, but only slightly! To avoid looking like you’ve just stepped out of the 90s, choose a lip liner that’s similar to your natual lip colour. And to avoid looking like Coco the Clown, never overdraw at the corners; overdraw slightly higher than your Cupid’s Bow and slightly lower than the fullest part of your bottom lip. Less is more here!
If you have full lips, choose a darker colour than your natural lip colour; this creates the optical illusion of making your lips appear slightly smaller. Simply match your natural lip line on application, don’t overdraw or underdraw!
3: Brushing Up:
Never underestimate the power of a lip brush for perfectly precise application. It helps to blend your lip liner and lipstick together for a more seamless look. You can also layer your lipstick if you’re using a lip brush for a longer-lasting application.
4: Blot Before You Go:
After applying your favourite lipstick, blot with a clean tissue. Then take a second tissue and separate the two sheets, so you have a single-ply tissue. Hold this gently to your lips, then, using a brush, dust a little translucent loose powder across your lips over the tissue. We love Jane Iredale’s Amazing Matte™ Loose Finish Powder.
