Puppy Love: Global Soap

The unconditional love dog owners receive from their prized pooches is impossible to quantify. A wagging tail, adoring eyes and doggy snuggles reduce even the most stoic among us into a dribbling ball of marshmallow speaking in some strange, high pitched dialect that causes the utterer to say everything twice ….’ who’s a good boy then … who’s a good boy then’.

Having a dog is a huge responsibility. Feeding, watering, exercising, sheltering and attending to their medical needs takes time, effort and a fair wedge of cash in order to earn the privilege of dog ownership. For all we do here at Global Soap to mitigate the effects of single use plastics on our planet, nothing crushes the soul more than reports of animal abuse and cruelty – the cowardice is staggering.

Keeping your dog’s coat clean and healthy is an essential part of canine health. A regular shampoo goes along way to ensuring the overall well being of your furry pal…though if your dog is anything like mine who likes nothing more than sourcing the foulest smelling substance on the beach to roll around in, then a shampoo and shower is a much more frequent thing!

The Power of Neem Oil

The start ingredient in our Dog Shampoo bar is undoubtedly Neem Oil, derived from the seeds of the Neem tree (Azadirachta indica). A tree in the mahogany family Meliaceae, Neem trees are native to the Indian subcontinent and are typically grown in tropical and semi-tropical regions.

Neem is a fast-growing tree that can reach a height of 15–30 metres with wide spreading branches. The fruit of the tree is an olive-like stone fruit about 14–28 mm long and 10–15 mm wide. The white hard inner shell of the fruit encloses elongated brown coated kernels which can be pressed or crushed to extract the oil. Neem Oil is yellow to brown in colour.

Neem has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for more than 4,000 years due to its medicinal properties. It has powerful anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties and is used for a myriad of skin complaints ranging from infections, through to baldness, eczema, itchiness and dermatitis. Its the perfect ingredient in our Dog Shampoo bar for its medicinal properties as well as the shine and lustre it affords a dog’s coat.
