The NZSO presents a programme of perfectly formed jewels of the Baroque period. We welcome Alex McFarlane to perform Telemann’s Viola Concerto in G Major.
McFarlane honed his craft in England after cutting his teeth in NZSO’s National Youth Orchestra. He later won the 2018 Lorna Viol Memorial Prize and ROSL Trophy, performing with London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic before coming home to take up the Associate Principal Viola position at NZSO.
No Baroque programme is complete without a bit of Bach. His set of concertos written for the Margrave of Brandenburg are much-loved staples of the canon.
