Handmade Memorial & keepsake Jewellery: Jewel Beetle
People have been adorning themselves with jewellery to commemorate special occasions or milestones for centuries. It became popular in Victorian times after Queen Victoria lost her husband. In mourning, she wore black clothing for over 40 years and commissioned artworks and jewellery in memory of her beloved Prince Albert.
Over the past 19 years Jewel Beetle have created several items of Jewellery for customers in memory of loved ones either carrying ashes or simply hiding special items in compartments. Last winter it was finally time to stop procrastinating and create a keepsake collection. The pendants with hidden sealed compartments can hold a variety of items like ashes, a lock of hair, fur from your beloved pet or small items that you would like to keep close to your heart, even a special message.
Deciding to dedicate an item of jewellery to hold such dear sentimental value is an emotional journey. The girls at Jewel Beetle are very much aware of how difficult it is to leave your precious items but rest assured they will be handled with utmost care and respect from start to finish.
Your special items will be enclosed in a sealed compartment, riveted shut to secure it’s contents. Ready to wear and keep those special memories close to your heart.
Some designs from other collections can also be adapted to incorporate ashes for example rings with small amounts concealed behind gemstones.
These rings were created by Yvon for her cousins in the Netherlands after her uncle passed away. They each decided on a design that had special meaning to them although Yvon initially was uneasy handling her uncle’s ashes it was also very special to be asked to create something so personal for her cousins.
Allison recently created a pendant for a client to give to his girlfriend to remember their very special cat that had recently passed away. The cat fur was concealed inside and embedded in clear resin for protection. Allison engraved the pendant by with an image of the cat.
Jewel Beetle has many more ideas to help you create something truly special and unique to remember your special person or day.
The greenstone earrings pictured below were created as gifts for bridesmaids. A piece of fabric from their dresses was rolled through the mill leaving an imprint of the fabric in the silver.
